Saving money starts with awareness. Awareness in regards to how much money you truly are making and awareness in regards to how much money you are truly spending. I’ve learned through professional experience that most people overestimate the amount of money that they earn and underestimate the amount of money that they spend. Therefore, if you really want to start saving money, start by recording every single one of your transactions. You want to record any money that enters your personal economy and you want to record any money that leaves. You tip, you record. You get paid, you record. You take a taxi, you record. Not only does recording your transactions help you understand where your money is going but it also helps keep you honest. This is what I mean. Most people set goals then barely make any progress towards them. When you sit down to record or write your transactions down, your mind will automatically ask you if your behaviors are inline with your goals. Like is this bar tab getting me closer to the house or to the 800 credit score or to being debt free etc. If the answer is no, then you've got to change. That simple.
